Functional Movement Therapy

Neuromuscular/Sports Massages

Cupping / IASTM / Kinesiotaping

Movement is an important part of life. When you stop being able to move, pain ensues, both physically and mentally. According to the CDC, more than 50 million Americans experience chronic pain, and more than 20 million live with high-impact chronic pain that lasts three months or longer and is accompanied by at least one major activity restriction, such as being unable to go to work or school, or do household chores. Movement therapy is effective in restoring function to acute and chronic soft tissue injuries, and is often used to treat plantar fasciitis, repetitive motion injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, scar tissue, neck/shoulder/back/hip/knee/ankle pain and more.

My holistic, full body approach looks for the root of the cause of soft tissue dysfunction and pain. By focusing on the root, I can provide long-term pain relief rather than short term relief of symptoms. The techniques I use include doing assessments of your mobility, movements and pain patterns, soft tissue release work for pain relief and increased range of motion, and reviewing corrective actions for you to do at home to reset your brain/body connection to continue the healing patterns.

I work with you to restore functional movements to your body, so you can reach overhead to that top shelf, squat down to play with your grandchildren, and do that one-legged pose in yoga class that always has you tipping over. These movement therapies also help you understand your body better in order to recover from injuries, prevent new injuries, and help you push your body's performance potential to new heights with improvements in stability and mobility!

Neuromuscular Massage

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a specialized massage technique that corrects pain and dysfunction through manual therapy to trigger point and connective tissue patterns. NMT is  effective for chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions such as migraines, neck pain, rotator cuff issues, TMJ, and low back pain.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a fast paced, vigorous massage designed to help muscles recover from workouts and competitions.  Stretching is often used to help relieve tightness and inflammation.

Movement Therapy

Movement Therapy uses safe, simple, and effective tactics to screen and assess ‘conscious’ movement patterns.  A variety of interventional tools (mobility balls, exercise bands, foam rollers, compression flossing bands, agility and conditioning equipment) along with corrective exercises tactics, is used to tackle an evidence-informed, brain-based approach to movement improvement and functional performance programming. Movement Therapy is effect for plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff issues, low back/hip/knee pain.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy uses negative pressure by creating vacuum within a cup to draw the skin and underlying tissues into the cup. The created suction increases blood and lymphatic flow, relaxes muscle tissue, releases tissue adhesions, and draws stagnation and toxins out of the body. This process can leave marks (not bruises) on the surface to allow for the body's lymphatic system to better drain the stagnation from the tissue. The marks generally fade within 1 - 2 weeks.

IASTM

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is commonly paired with the image of steel tools and deep tissue work that can cause redness and bruising on the skin. I utilize the concept of movement therapy and performance enhancement with gentle soft tissue techniques to deliver superior patient outcomes. I combine IASTM with kinesiology taping and corrective exercise techniques to deliver a comprehensive approach to patient care.

Flossing

Flossing uses a latex band and the science of compression and fascial shearing to help ‘unstick’ muscles and joints so they move better and with less pain.  Great for reducing muscle and joint pain and improving flexibility.  Works well with plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain, and more.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping is used for various treatments including: pain mitigation, decreasing inflammation, increasing fluid movements, neuromuscular re-education, and muscle/joint support. I use functional kinesiology taping methods that can improve human movement and enhance performance by taping movement rather than muscles.
